Jarrell ISD Partners with new Literacy Program

Jarrell ISD is partnering with Education Connection, a non-profit organization that recruits people from faith-based and community organizations and pairs them with elementary-aged students struggling with reading skills. The agency assigns mentors to our elementary campuses. The Literacy Partners work with students for one-on-one reading sessions. The sessions last 30 minutes each week for 12 weeks. The goal is to improve literacy skills among our youngest students.

Education Connection was founded in 2009 to support children's literacy and decrease school dropout rates. The organization works with districts across the Austin Metro area and serves more than 100 schools. More than 90% of teachers say the program is effective and makes a difference.

Jarrell ISD is recruiting Literacy Partners for this program. To be a mentor, you must pass a background check and attend a training session. Education Connection is determining the date and time for a training session.
