Board of Trustees Approve Name for the New Middle School

At the March 27, 2024, school board meeting, the Jarrell ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted on a name for the new middle school.

"After careful deliberation and thoughtful consideration, the board approved "Jarrell Ranch Middle School" as the name of middle school number two. We are so grateful for the Naming Committee's time and recommendations. We know they worked hard," said school board President Crystal Phalen.

Jarrell Ranch Middle School is a recommendation from the Middle School #2 Naming Committee, comprised of parents, staff, community members, city leaders, a school board member, and a student focus group.

The committee received more than 650 name suggestions from the community, with the word "Ranch" a common trend among those names. For the past five months, the committee has met to discuss the community's recommendations and review historical information from the Texas State Historical Association, the Williamson County Historical Commission, and other considerations.

"The name "Jarrell Ranch Middle School" embodies our values: tradition and community. Keeping Jarrell in the name continues to unite the east and west sides of our community. Adding "Ranch" to the name takes the public input, and it perfectly represents the area where the school is being built," said school board President Crystal Phalen.

In addition to Jarrell Ranch Middle School, the other four recommendations were Cactus Ranch Middle School, Oak Ranch Middle School, Donahoe Ranch Middle School, and Donahoe Middle School.

Jarrell Ranch Middle School is being built on the east side of FM 487. The location is not far from Donahoe Creek. It will open in August 2025.
