State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR)

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) informs teachers and parents about student proficiency and progress on grade-level knowledge and skills. The exams will also identify students in need of accomodations or required tutoring.

The STAAR program in grades 3–8 assesses the subjects listed below: 

  • Grade 3 - reading and mathematics (English and Spanish versions) 
  • Grade 4 - reading and mathematics (English and Spanish versions) 
  • Grade 5 - reading, mathematics, and science (English and Spanish versions)
  • Grade 6 - reading and mathematics
  • Grade 7 - reading and mathematics
  • Grade 8 - reading, mathematics, science and social studies

End of Course (EOC) Test Information

In high school, subject-specific assessments will include five End-of-Course (EOC) assessments:

  • Algebra I
  • Biology
  • English I
  • English II
  • U.S. History

Students should take the STAAR EOC assessment as they are completing the course, regardless of enrolled grade level. 

  • Grade 9 - Algebra I, English I, Biology STAAR EOC  
  • Grade 10 - English II STAAR EOC
  • Grade 11 - U.S. History STAAR EOC
