Dear Cougars,
I hope this email finds you safe and well and that you have access to the resources you need.

We want to share the state of our campuses following the winter storm and our plan to reopen school for the coming week.

Campus reports look good. The Jarrell ISD maintenance, facilities, technology, and operations teams have been working around the clock assessing our buildings and determined the impact on our schools was relatively minimal.

  • Jarrell High School is currently without a fire suppression system, but otherwise in good condition. Crews are working to fix the system as soon as possible.

  • Jarrell Middle School, Jarrell Elementary, and Igo Elementary experienced no damage from the storm and are in excellent shape.
  • Jarrell Middle School is currently the only school under a boil-water notice.

  • While the district had to dispose of some campus food supplies due to the loss of power and refrigeration, our food services team has determined we have sufficient food and beverages available for students next week.

Jarrell ISD will operate on the following learning plan for the week of February 22-26:

  • Jarrell High School will be 100% remote learning for all students on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. The Jarrell High School campus will be closed to students and staff, and teachers will work from home. Students will be contacted by their teachers through email and Google Classroom. Our tentative plan is for students and staff to return to the campus by Thursday, February 25.
  • Jarrell Elementary and Igo Elementary will return to in-person learning on Monday. There are no operational changes for these campuses.
  • Jarrell Middle School will return to in-person learning on Monday.
Water conditions at JMS: All water fountains and water-filling stations at Jarrell Middle School will be closed until further notice. The school will have bottled water and water stations available for students and staff. We are asking students and staff to fill water bottles at home and bring them to school.
  • Buses will run their regular routes for elementary and middle school students this week.
  • We are aware staff may be dealing with storm-related issues at their own homes in the coming days. We are pulling together and consolidating resources from across the district to serve students while the staff takes care of their personal situations.

We will continue to share information as we assess conditions throughout the week. This storm has been difficult for many and very thankful our campuses did not sustain significant damage so that we can resume school next week.

If you need assistance, please continue to check the district’s social media accounts, as we are sharing information about area services frequently through these channels.

Once again I applaud the resilience of the Cougar Family. Together we will get through this.

Cougar proud,
Toni Hicks
