About Teacher of the Year
Texas Teacher of the Year is the highest honor that the State of Texas can bestow upon a teacher. Facilitated by TASA since 2011, the program annually recognizes and rewards teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching.

Each spring, Jarrell ISD campus staff vote on a campus-level Teachers of the Year. Classroom teachers, school librarians, and counselors who teach students at least four hours per day are eligible.

A committee of community volunteers reviews the finalists from each campus and scores their applications based on criteria outlined through TASA. Teacher of the Year nominees should be somebody who: is an expert in their field who guides students of all backgrounds and abilities to achieve excellence; collaborates with colleagues, students, and families to create a school culture of respect and success; deliberately connects the classroom and key stakeholders to foster a strong community at large; demonstrates leadership and innovation in and outside of the classroom walls that embody lifelong learning; expresses themselves in an engaging and articulate way.
